Our Teaching Farms
"Can We Eat Here Everyday?"
In 2015, Apple Seeds found its home on 2-acres of land at Gulley Park in Fayetteville. The Teaching Farm was established at Gulley Park thanks to a collaboration with the City of Fayetteville to lease those 2 acres to Apple Seeds until the year 2035.
In just 2 short years Apple Seeds turned this field into a Teaching Farm and opened its gates to students in 2017. Home to a Teaching Kitchen, an orchard, production gardens and a variety of gardens, the Teaching Farm is a place for students to learn, cook, share healthy meals together, and be inspired to do the same in their kitchens.
Not a day goes by where we don’t hear the enthusiastic voices of students as they walk through the gates, explore the gardens, and delight in preparing garden fresh food together.
In 2026 Apple Seeds announced a new partnership with the Arkansas Office of Outdoor Recreation and Arkansas State Parks to establish a Central Arkansas Teaching Farm at Pinnacle Mountain State Park.
Located near the historic Butterfield House, the new Teaching Farm will feature a hands-on learning farm and outdoor teaching kitchen serving thousands of Arkansas students through field trips, after-school programs, summer camps, and community events beginning the following fall Fall 2026.
Today, Apple Seeds reaches more than 20,000 students annually across Arkansas, including 4,500 in Central Arkansas. The new Teaching Farm aims to expand that reach to 15,000 students per year by 2029, with students learning to plant, harvest, prepare, and enjoy fresh foods in a natural outdoor setting. The Teaching Farm will also grow food that will be donated to food insecure families increasing access to fresh food.
The project aligns with statewide goals to improve childhood health, strengthen outdoor education, and increase access to healthy food and nature-based learning. We can't wait to share more as this exciting new chapter unfolds.
Our Teaching Kitchen
Once a woodshop, the Teaching Kitchen has everything our young students need to cook. You’ll find cooking stations, a commercial dishwasher, pantry, an outdoor cooking area and space enough for 30 students to chop, grate, sauté, bake and sit down to enjoy their meal together.
